Corbin E. Ferguson: poking and prodding at masculinity, misogyny, and a larger system of individualism

corbinferguson.com

Ferguson (he/him) b. 1987, is an American artist currently living and working in Brooklyn, New York. He earned his MFA from the Milton Avery school of Art, Bard in 2021 and his BFA from Laguna College Of Art and Design in 2014.

His practice, rooted in the traditions of both observational painting and gestural abstraction, is conceptually bridged in the performance of the body. Amidst cultural frameworks global and locally branded to his home in the United States, he draws a poignant metaphor between daily life and art history that strangely and obliquely refers to the artist and His model. Ferguson objectifies himself in both artist and model positions; as an artistic intervention of the categorization of identity to that of a spectral color field. His philosophical play and practice pokes and prods at masculinity, misogyny, and a larger system of individualism.

Ferguson’s work has been exhibited internationally and in the U.S. His most recent exhibitions include a duo show at Holy Art in London, UK and Duo collaboration, Our Cat Ferguson at the Woods Gallery in Annandale-On-Hudson, NY, both in 2021. Fergusons prior exhibition venues include an artist run group show in his previous studio, titled “Exit” in Santa Ana, CA (2017); Veloy Vigil Gallery in Taos, NM (2016); Jamie Brooks Gallery in Costa Mesa, CA (2015); and Dax Gallery in Costa Mesa, CA (2015) among others.
